Weekly News: 24 Oct 2014

Well done to the Castlegar U10's who rounded off a tremendous season with overall victory in the finals of the Rahoon-Newcastle league tournament last Sunday. They faced Clarinbridge in the final with both clubs fielding two teams. With one win a piece there was a play off for overall winner with Cashel sealing a deserved victory. Following hot on the heels of their win in the St. Mary's tournament it has been a very successful season and our thanks and congratulations go to all the players and mentors involved. Our U15's season came to a close last Saturday, they were defeated by Turloughmore in their A-Championship semi-final on a scoreline of 1:12 to1:05. The lads battled bravely and played some good hurling at times, but never managed to maintain momentum in a very stop start game. While they will be disappointed, overall it was an encouraging season and with many of the panel still under 15 next year the prospects are good. Many thanks to all the players and mentors for all the hard work and to our hosts Turloughmore for their excellent hospitality on the day.Indeed with all our juvenile teams finished at this stage, a word of thanks to all the players, parents, and mentors for their efforts. It has been an excellent season in terms of developing and improving players. As usual Castlegar competed at A-level in all juvenile championship ages and made the semi finals in all.Our U21 team are still standing and face Athenry in the A-Championship quarter finals. That game is to be played on bank holiday Monday the 27th at1:30pm in Loughrea.
